Colgate takes patrons back in time
Next month, Morning Star Productions is hosting Underground Railroad, an escape interactive event in Menomonee Falls’ western neighbor Colgate.
In groups of 10, guests go back in time to the year 1852 complete with historic costumes and actors. Harriet Tubman guides them through a wooded trail to solve puzzles and discover secret codes. The goal is to help a runaway slave get to Canada using the Underground Railroad.
The event was such a success in the fall of last year that new puzzles and clues have been added to bring it back one more time. More than 1,000 students experienced Underground Railroad during its first run.
Abolitionist characters discuss their willpower and drive as they walk with guests along the trail. Many black actors working at the event link the experience to their past and give their professional take on the event. Print shops can make literature that looks historically accurate to the period to enhance experiences such as this.
The public can enjoy the event on June 1 and 8 from 2:30 – 4:00 pm and 6:30 – 8:00 pm, and June 2 from 2:30 – 4:00 pm behind Wooded Hills Church. Groups go in 10-minute intervals and the trail is an hour long with a short introduction and a discussion at the end. School field trips can be scheduled by appointment on weekdays until June 3.
