What's Happening in Germantown, WI…

Board gives thumbs down to commercial zone

On December 2, the Menomonee Falls Plan Commission voted against a historical residential lot spanning one acre becoming commercial as requested by its current owner, Tate Boho.

Despite the idea that the lot could be used for an orthodontist, the town does not believe it would be the best thing to do with the lot. Randy Newman, village president and chairman of the plan commission, stated that there would only be benefits for the commercial resident.

Civil War doctor Dr. William Hoyt owned the lot around Hoyt Drive and Main Street in 1869 and there is speculation that it was part of the Underground Railroad. Hoyt practiced medicine in Menomonee Falls after the war before the street was renamed in his honor.

Town residents displayed interest in keeping what historical buildings the town had left intact, but there are no historical preservation regulations in Menomonee Falls. Boho is still hoping to persuade the village of his idea. His request will be reviewed twice more, with an upcoming meeting on January 6, before the village board makes its final decision.

Poster printers could help Boho make his case by creating a poster that would show what he believes to be the benefits of the commercial lot in the residential area. A professional printer would use bright colors on visuals and straightforward fonts to make presentations more understandable.
