Kenosha plans colorful celebration

An event that celebrates Mexican culture has become popular worldwide and will be celebrated in Kenosha.

Cinco de Mayo commemorates the 1862 victory of Mexican General Ignacio Zaragoza and his troops against the French at the Battle of Puebla. However, the French defeated the Mexicans at the Second Battle of Puebla, after which they occupied Mexico City. When the American Civil War ended in 1865, the U.S. began lending guns and money to Mexico, and France eventually agreed to withdraw its troops. This historic engagement changed history and is celebrated throughout the world.

In Kenosha, the day brings food, fun, performances of various kinds, and even a mechanical bull.

The performances are scheduled to start at 1.00 pm with the Ballet Folklorico, followed by Payasito, Spanish for clown, at 2.00 pm. At 3.00 pm, Chinelos, dancers wearing traditional costumes who are especially popular in the state of Morelos, Mexico City’s Federal District, and some areas in the State of Mexico, will perform.

They will be followed by Norteno at 4.00 pm, then Versatil will take the stage at 5.00 pm, and the headliner, appearing at 6.00 pm, is Banda Sorpresa.

The exuberant day is May 4, from 12.00 pm until 7.00 pm, at the Pennoyer Park Band Shell. A colorful event like this can be advertised with equally colorful Posters, which organizers can find at local Print shops.
