Holiday concert planned in Kenosha
An upcoming concert in Kenosha will share the joy of the holiday season with music performed by the Kenosha Symphony Orchestra, and the Kenosha Chamber Choir.
The “Spirit of the Holidays” takes place at the Indian Trail High School and Academy. The performance includes popular Christmas carols, and even a singalong.
The program begins with Leroy Anderson’s “A Christmas Festival,” an orchestral piece that incorporates short passages from popular carols such as “Joy to the World,” “Silent Night,” and others.
Percy Grainger’s “Shepherd’s Hey,” a rustic folksong, is next, followed by the “Parade of the Wooden Soldiers,” written in 1897 by Leon Jessel. The song has been used in several films.
“Stille Nacht” (“Silent Night”), the beloved carol, was composed in Oberndorf bei Salzburg, Austria, by Franz Xavier Gruber in 1818, with lyrics by Joseph Mohr. This performance will feature an arrangement by Chip Davis (Mannheim Steamroller)
“The Christmas Song” (better known for the line “Chestnuts roasting on an open fire . . .”) by Mel Tormé and Robert Wells is next and will be followed by a “Fantasia on ‘We Three Kings,’” conducted by Brian Balmages.
Things dive into the animated world with selections from “Frozen,” followed by more films in “Christmas at the Movies.” The Kenosha Chamber Choir will perform, and everyone will enjoy John Finnegann’s “Christmas Singalong.” The concert ends with “Sleigh Ride” by Leroy Anderson.
The concert is Sunday, December 21, at 6800 60th Street in Kenosha. Events like this benefit when organizers use poster printing to advertise them.
