Lumberjack-themed festival awaits Kenosha

Kenosha will be the site of a fun event for the whole family.

The Flannel Fest will celebrate lumberjacks, food, and beards. The highlight of the day will be the Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show, but there are many different activities planned as well.

Festivities kick off at 11.30 am, when food trucks arrive at the location, Petrifying Springs Park, while a live DJ begins his show on the main stage. Children’s activities will take place during the early afternoon, with bounce houses available at 12.00 pm.

Next up is the Beard Contest at 12.30 pm. Beards will be judged most interesting, longest, and thickest, with the winner will be decided by audience applause. The winner will receive free beer and prizes, as well as bragging rights.

The Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show will give three performances, at 1.00 pm, 3.00 pm, and 5.00 pm. Events in the show, all done by professional lumberjacks, include log rolling, various types of sawing and chopping, axe throwing, and more.

The event winds up at 6.00 pm with live music courtesy of Kyle Jennings.

Organizers remind everyone that there is no parking on the grass, but there will be room at designated lots inside the park. Room will also be available at an academic lot at UW-Parkside.

There will be two ATMs at Flannel Fest since food and beer purchases must be made in cash. For special events like this, organizers may decide to turn to flyer printing as a cost-effective method of creating a schedule.
