A huge event begins soon in Kenosha, one that takes people back in time.
The Bristol Renaissance Faire will transform approximately 30 acres in southeastern Kenosha to Bristol, a city in England, as it was in 1574, when Queen Elizabeth I was paying the area a visit.
Among the performers at the Faire are acrobats, interactive comedians, and knights in armor performing authentic jousts on horseback. Shakespeare, magic, live music, and sword swallowing will be part of the entertainment. People can learn authentic crafts of the Renaissance such as calligraphy, candle making, and textile and basket weaving at demonstrations given by artisans such as blacksmiths and potters.
Costumes are encouraged but not required. For those who are interested, guidelines for costumes are on the Faire website.
Of course, food is an important part of an event like this. Renaissance treats like Cornish meat pies, giant turkey legs, and garlic-butter mushrooms will be available. More ordinary fare such as nachos and chicken wings will also be available, along with vegetarian and gluten-free options, plus a range of alcoholic beverages.
There will be more than 125 artisans in the Marketplace offering unique home décor, jewelry art, costumes, and clothing, and everything from Steampunk fashion to replica weapons.
The Renaissance Faire begins July 6 and runs every weekend, as well as Labor Day Monday, until September 2. Organizers of events like this will often use flyer printing to create handouts for visitors, with a map and schedule of events.
