A care center in Kenosha is celebrating its fifth year of service.
Kenosha’s Grace Welcome Center has been supporting those in need for the past five years, providing shelter, food, and other services. The center is a grassroots, community based organization that provides a safe space for those who need assistance.
The center started its mission by providing home cooked breakfasts, free of charge, one day per week at its 60th Street location. The organization later teamed up with Harborside Middle School, which allowed it to serve breakfast twice weekly. In addition, it offers personal hygiene products, clean clothes, and showers on those days.
In 2019, as a response to those in the neighborhood lacking adequate food, the center added a food pantry. More than 140 families in need receive more than three tons of nourishing food every week, thanks to the more than 100 volunteers who deliver it every Tuesday.
The celebration of the center’s first five years includes an open house at the center, led by volunteers and students from Harborside Middle School. Outside the center, everyone is invited to enjoy family-friendly, fun events, as well as delicious food. The party will move to Reuther Auditorium later in the day, where the rock band Lunde will perform in a concert entitled “Lovin’ Loud” with Ben Mulwana as a special guest.
The celebration is scheduled for May 13. When events take place outdoors, organizers can turn to banner printing to create sturdy, weather-resistant decorations.
