Auto history wheels into Kenosha

For over 100 years, Kenosha was a center of automobile manufacturing, and that history is celebrated in a special event.

The Kenosha Homecoming Car Show is produced by the Kenosha History Center, which organizes the event at irregular intervals, usually every three years. A five-day event, the Car Show is held at venues throughout the city.

There is a wide variety of activities throughout the show, including morning and evening cruise-ins at various businesses, and several days of racing at the Great Lakes Dragaway. The main events are on Friday and Saturday, with the Swap Meet scheduled from 8.00 am until 4.00 pm on Friday at Kennedy Park, the Parade starting at 4.00 pm, and the Homecoming Block Party from 4.00 pm until 8.00 pm at the Kenosha History Center. Saturday’s main event is the Kenosha Homecoming Car Show & Swap Meet, from 8.00 am until 4.00 pm at Kennedy Park.

The Car Show commemorates the city’s history of auto manufacturing, which began in 1902 when Thomas Jeffrey, a bicycle maker, started making the Rambler in Kenosha. The car was the second ever made using mass assembly and ushered in 108 years of auto making here.

The Car Show begins Tuesday, July 26 and winds up Sunday, July 31. An event such as this, which draws people with similar interests, is a perfect place to exchange Business Cards.
