A popular annual event is coming up soon in Kenosha.
This year marks the 44th Annual Mayor’s Turkey Day Run, which will take place on the lakefront at the Kenosha Public Museum at 5500 1st Avenue. There are three races available this year, a 2K, 10K, and a Kid’s Race covering 50 yards. When events like this are planned, organizers can use banner printing to create weather-resistant course markers.
The first race took place in 1906, with the idea of making it a Thanksgiving tradition. However, it was not held every year, and the races stopped during the 1950s. In 1978, the Kenosha Running Club was formed, and brought back the race. It has since grown into an extremely popular event that draws almost 3,000 runners, who participate in the contest no matter what the weather is like.
The race begins at 9.00 am on Thanksgiving Day, November 23, giving people a chance to work up an appetite for dinner. Registration is open now, and the final day to register is November 22.
Registrations that are late must be made at the museum, and there is no registration on the day of the race. The fee is $25 per person, and $20 for those 14 and under. For anyone registering on the 22nd, the fee is $30, and $25 for the youngsters. The Kid’s Race is free, but requires registration, and to participate in the dash, an adult or guadrian must be running in either the 2K or the 10K.
