ChocolateFest has been a part of Memorial Day for over 30 years, but this year, residents can look forward to something different at the end of this month.
With Burlington eager to shed its “Chocolate” identity, residents can make a space for the new Burlington Jamboree this Memorial Day weekend.
The festival is free to attend and has activities that will appeal to residents of all ages. At the four-day festival, visitors can enjoy amusement rides, carnival food and games. On May 29, the festival will also have live entertainment. Burlington Lions Club will operate a beer tent at the venue. Health measures such as frequent cleaning, sanitizer stations, mask wearing, and social distancing will be encouraged at the event.
This is a big step away from the festival that became synonymous with Burlington over the years. Bill Scherrer, president of ChocolateFest, confirmed that 2019 was the last year for ChocolateFest because of restrictions due to the pandemic and lesser number of chocolate vendors and chocolate-related places of interest in the city. The name Burlington Jamboree is an ode to a popular Burlington festival that was held from the 1950s to 1980s before ChocolateFest began. Organizers often use banner and poster printing to inform visitors about the vendors at festivals like this.
The festival will be held from May 28 to May 31, with events beginning at 5:00 pm on the opening day and at 1:00 pm on the other three. The venue is Burlington festival grounds at 681 Maryland Avenue.
