Seno Woodland Center in Burlington is running a workshop on rearing monarch butterflies this summer.
The workshop will provide information about monarch butterflies and supplies for attendees interested in raising butterflies at home. It will include a presentation with information about the species, like its habitat, life cycle and migration patterns, and a walk around the Center. Participants will learn to identify milkweed, which is essential for monarchs. They will also identify and collect monarch eggs and caterpillars.
Those planning to attend should register on the Seno Woodland Center’s website. There are two registration options. The fee for taking home a monarch rearing box is $25, and attending without taking a kit is free. Attendees can use the free option to learn about the butterflies without raising their own or to participate with a group while only taking home one box for the household. All ages are welcome. Instructors often work with Print shops to create educational handouts for this type of event.
Seno Woodland Center is the headquarters of Seno K/RLT Conservancy, which works on sustainable forestry, education and land preservation. It is home to several native prairie areas, and its trails are free and open to the public during daylight hours.
The Monarch Magic! Monarch Butterfly Rearing Workshop will be on Tuesday, July 21 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at Seno Woodland Center in Burlington.
