The Thanksgiving holiday saw the fourth annual running of the Burlington Turkey Trot. It was a chance for people to come out and have fun while raising money and food donations for the local food bank.
According to organizers, the number of those who registered for the race was up 20% compared to last year, and more than 540 showed up to run the five kilometer route. People were allowed to join as part of a team, and the times of the top three races in each group were used to determine their placements for awards and prizes. The starting line was set as Veteran’s Terrace, with the course winding its way through the town.
Aside of the registration fee, participants were asked to bring a donation to the Love, Inc. food bank, which was the nonprofit partner for the race. For each item donated, people were given a ticket for the prize drawing, with awards of certificates for turkeys, homemade pies, and other items being given away to the lucky winners.
The race had a new sponsor this year; Talmer Bank had agreed to provide the bulk of the funding for the event.
Each participant was given a goody bag and custom printed T-shirt to thank them for taking part. This is the type of thing that a printing company can offer to help make an event like this even more of a success.
