Yakima is welcoming the holiday season with free events to kick off the fun.
The Downtown Association of Yakima is hosting a tree lighting ceremony, as well as a holiday market. The market will be at the Rotary Pavilion, where shoppers will find local vendors. They will also be able to enjoy the Bring a Gift Campaign, where attendees can place a gift under the decorated tree they like best. The gifts support local causes such as the Yakima Humane Society and the YWCA.
The Holiday Light Parade begins after the market closes, and encourages attendees to have fun and be creative. Participants can use flashlights, glow sticks, light strings, and anything they can think of to put as many lights as possible on the vehicles.
Santa Claus will arrive at the end of the parade. Parade participants are asked not to throw anything into the crowd to avoid having children run into the street. Equestrian units will need to bring their own pooper scoopers.
The events are scheduled for December 1, with the Holiday Market running from 2.00 pm until 6.00 pm. Parade entries should assemble at the Salvation Army parking lot at 4.00 pm and have Signs telling everyone who they are.
