A Yakima school will have a new leader soon, according to an announcement from the local school district.
Julianna Maxwell has been hired as the new principal at Adams Elementary School, according to sources at the Yakima School District.
Maxwell has been in the educational field for almost 20 years. During that time, she has worked as assistant principal at two greater-Seattle area schools – Soos Creek Elementary School and White Center Heights Elementary School.
In 2000, Maxwell moved to Washington State from her hometown of Atlanta Georgia, and attended City University of Seattle, which granted her a master's degree in teaching. She spent nine years as a classroom teacher before she enrolled in the City University's Administrative Certification program, which she completed in 2015.
The university offers these state-level certifications for the positions of superintendent, program administrator, or principal. The certifications may be obtained as an independent study, or as part of a program leading to a doctorate in education. A number of graduates of these programs have won Administrator and Principal of the Year awards. Maxwell is currently working toward her doctorate in education leadership.
Maxwell will follow outgoing principal Tim Lee, who will be taking over as Black Diamond Elementary School's principal. Black Diamond is in Enumclaw. Often, when changes such as this occur, business card printing is used to create appropriate cards for an incoming new hire.
