A rock band celebrating Tom Petty’s music is coming to Yakima.
The Waiting takes their name from the No. 1 single from the “Hard Promises” album, which Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers released in 1981. The song stayed in the top spot for six weeks in a row.
The current lineup of The Waiting is Ethan Decker on drums; Ryan Garnsey handling keyboards and vocals; Kyle Brenner, vocals and guitar; Chris Gillette, guitar and lead vocals; Doc Wiley on bass guitar; and Rick Winking doing vocals and lead guitar. Wiley and Winking, along with Paul Decker, co-founded the group in 2013 in Bozeman, Montana.
Wiley got the idea for the band in the 1990s in Manhattan from Will Lee, the bass player in the band on the “Late Show with David Letterman.” Lee was putting together a cover band for the Beatles using with New York City’s best musicians. He was not aiming for a tribute band recreating the Beatles’ performances, but instead wanted the group to reinterpret the music in their own way. Wiley wanted to approach Tom Petty’s music the same way.
Audiences for The Waiting will be treated to songs from Petty’s solo career, his time with the Heartbreakers, and with The Traveling Wilburys, a supergroup that comprised Petty, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, George Harrison, and Jeff Lynne.
The Waiting will be at The Seasons Performance Hall on November 3. Organizers of events like this can use poster printing to advertise them.
