History buffs, World War II scholars, and fans of warbirds will have a chance to get up close and personal with vintage aircraft soon.
The Collings Foundation’s Wings of Freedom Tour is on its way to Yakima, where it will spend several days at the Yakima Air Terminal-McAllister Field. Among the vintage planes on the tour are a P-51 Mustang fighter; a Curtiss P-40 Warhawk fighter; a B-25 Mitchell bomber; a Consolidated B-24 Liberator bomber; and a Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress. Visitors will not only be able to tour them, but can fly in them as well. Brave individuals can even sign up for flight training.
The aircraft will be on display at the field next week from June 24 through June 27. Tours will be given from 12:00 noon until 5:00pm on June 24; from 9:30am until 5:00pm on both June 25 and 26; and from 9:30am until 12:00 noon on June 27. Admission to the tours is $15 for adults, $5 for children 12 or younger. Veterans of World War II can attend the event free of charge.
Flights are 30 minutes in length and vary in price depending on the model of plane, but range from between $450 and $2,400, with some hour flights also available. Banner printing may be used to create decorations for occasions like this.
