Event to celebrate nature in Yakima

A special event has been scheduled for Yakima.

The Yakima Area Arboretum is the location of the upcoming 2024 Arborfest, which is a celebration of Arbor Day in Washington State. Organizers are inviting everyone to enjoy the beauty of nature, and the key role of trees in the health of the community.

People attending the event will find crafts, learning opportunities, and displays that show the results of forest fires. In addition, they will be able to take home a tree of their own to plant to honor Arbor Day.

The day was officially created by J. Sterling Morton, who was the Secretary of the Nebraska Territory and a lover of trees. The first Arbor Day was April 10, 1872, and it is estimated that people in Nebraska planted over one million trees that day.

The event hopes to make environmental science enjoyable for all. There will be over 25 stations where various community organizations will be available to discuss the theme of this year’s event, “Flower Power.”

Organizers ask that people who are planning to attend please bring their own reusable Bags to take home their handouts, craft items, and other items they obtain at the event.

The 2024 ArborFest is set to take place on Saturday, April 13, from 10.00am until 3.00pm, and the Arboretum can be found at 1401 Arboretum Drive.
