Conference scheduled for music professionals

An upcoming conference will bring music educators together in Yakima for a three-day event.

The 48th Annual WMEA (Washington State Musical Educators) State Conference is open to high school and college music students, music educators, and anyone curious about music education. Once a participant registers, they will have access to conference exhibits, presentations, and musical performances. These include the All-State Jazz Band concert, the WMEA Junior All-State concert, and the WMEA Junior Jazz Band concert. Concert tickets for other performances are available at extra cost.

The theme of this year’s conference is “Finding Community: One Note at a Time.” The special guest and keynote speaker is Dr. Jeremy L. Earnhart, who is the Chief Operating Officer of Music For All, Inc., a non-profit organization that presents over 30 scholastic arts and music education programs yearly across the United States. The other headline guests are Courtney Snyder, Manju Durairay, Adrian Gordon, Dr. Jonathan Talberg, and Chelsea Cook. All are music educators or performers, or other musical professionals. Adrian Gordon is also a composer and conductor.

The conference is set for February 16-19 at the Yakima Convention Center and other venues in the area. The timing of the conference is deliberate, running Friday afternoon through Monday, so teachers do not have to find a substitute for Friday’s classes.
