Christmas fun to light up Yakima

A special event in Yakima will bring in the holidays in style.

It’s almost time for Yakima’s Annual Christmas Lighted Parade, which gives everyone the opportunity to pile lights on their vehicles and join the fun. The parade is suitable for everyone, but there are a few rules and suggestions from the parade organizers.

First, anyone who wants to participate needs to register, and all will be accepted, unless told differently. No acceptance emails will be sent out. The second rule is to be creative and use multiple light strings, flashlights, glow sticks—anything that will light up a vehicle is acceptable.

Only one Santa is allowed at this parade, and he will have an official arrival ceremony. Santa toys or mechanical Santas are acceptable, but anyone else dressed as Santa is not. Participants are reminded not to throw candy, toys, or anything from the vehicles, to avoid having children running into the street.

Anyone with a horse or other animal in their entry must clean up after themselves using their own equipment.

Entries will need to check in at the starting point at approximately 4.00pm. After the parade, the tree lighting and other events will be held in the Plaza. Organizers of events like this can use banner printing to create appropriate Christmas decorations.

The parade is scheduled for Sunday, December 3 at 6.00pm, starting at the Salvation Army and ending at Millennium Plaza. No awards will be given, the event is just for fun.
