One of the most popular films of the 1950s has been turned into one of the most popular plays of the 2000s, and it's on the way to Yakima for two performances.
“An American in Paris” is coming to Yakima's Capitol Theatre, where audiences can see the story for the first time, or fall in love with it all over again. The hero of the play is Jerry Mulligan, an American soldier who fought in World War II, and decided to stay in Paris after the war, rather than returning to the United States. An aspiring artist, he believes he will have his best chance at establishing his career as a painter if he remains in Europe. His life becomes much more complex when he falls in love with a young Parisian girl, only to discover he's not the only man in her life.
The film won an Oscar®, and the play won a Tony®, and audiences will recognize the music, which was written by George and Ira Gershwin. Among the songs are “I Got Rhythm,” “'S Wonderful,” and “But Not for Me.” There are several instrumental numbers as well, including “The Cuban Overture,” “2nd Prelude,” and the title song, “An American in Paris.”
The performances are scheduled for January 11 at 7.30 pm, and January 12 at 2.00 pm. Poster printing is often used to create advertising for shows like this.
