Woodinville plans to celebrate Arbor Day
The City of Woodinville is getting set to celebrate Arbor Day, and is inviting residents to take part.
Arbor Day is officially celebrated in April, but the city has decided to hold the local festivities in the autumn, because wet, cool conditions are best to encourage the growth of newly planted trees. Woodinville Rotary Community Park will be the site of the festivities, which consist of restoring native habitat, and planting trees.
This year’s celebration also commemorates Woodinville’s twenty-third year of winning the designation of a “Tree City, USA.” The National Arbor Day Foundation honors communities with this designation if they meet four standards. They must create a “tree board” to manage their forests; pass an ordinance regarding care of the trees; develop a local budget for tree care of a minimum of $2 per person; and celebrate Arbor Day.
Among the activities on the Woodinville schedule are remarks by the mayor, plus a tree-planting ceremony, followed by the volunteer tree planting and habitat restoration events in partnership with Mountains to Sound Greenway. All participants will receive a tree seedling as a thank you for taking part. Banner printing can be used to create fun decorations for events like this.
Woodinville’s Arbor Day Celebration 2019 is scheduled to take place from 10.00 am until 2.00 pm on November 9. Since spots for volunteers are limited, interested parties are strongly encouraged to register early.
