Woodinville invites residents to weigh in on Bear Creek

The City of Woodinville, the City of Redmond, Snohomish County, King County, and the Washington State Department of Transportation have partnered to create the Bear Creek Watershed-Scale Stormwater Plan, now referred to as the Bear Creek Watershed Management Study, and are asking the public to make comments at an upcoming meeting in Woodinville.

Bear Creek is an important resource to many communities, and the study hopes to discover strategies to restore the waterway so that it will provide a healthy environment for Chinook salmon and other species, as well as the communities on its bank. The study wants to link salmon recovery with stormwater management, and find strategies that will ensure existing and designated areas are fully supported.

The meeting will give people a chance to learn about the overall health of the creek, and measures to protect and restore the watershed long-term. The proposals also include a focused effort, predicted to last 10 years, which will consider five high-priority issues.

Residents who want more information about the study can find it online. They are also encouraged to send their comments to Jeff Burkey, the project manager, at jeff.burkey@kingcounty.gov. A public comment period is open now, and will run through March 21.

The meeting is slated for March 7 at Woodinville’s Brightwater Education and Community Center, from 6:30 pm until 8:30 pm. Events like this often call in a flyer printing company to create an agenda for attendees.
