Woodinville has been growing for several years, and officials believe it will grow even faster this year.
Dave Kuhl, a department head, reported to the City Council that applications for all kinds of building permits have increased in number over last year. These were not only for single-family homes, but also for commercial developments of all sizes, and for entire subdivisions.
Kuhl added that the numbers reflect a one-year jump, but the increase itself is part of a trend toward growth that extends back three years at least. Kuhl believes that Woodinville is benefiting from what he calls a ripple effect, where Seattle and other areas hit by the 2008 recession were able to grow again, which in turn spurred growth in surrounding areas.
Specific numbers include applications for seven subdivisions; last year there were none. Included in the number are both large developments offering dozens of homes, and requests to subdivide existing projects.
In total, Woodinville has experienced a 19% increase in the number of applications for construction permits, and the number of applications for permits for land use has tripled. Although Kuhl says they are not perfect indicators of change, they do signal continuing growth in Woodinville.
