What's Happening in Woodinville, WA…

Woodinville approves park improvements

This month, Woodinville's Parks and Recreation Commission recommended spending approximately $533,000 to improve DeYoung Park, and the idea was given the green light.

The vote was 4-1 in favor of the measure, which now goes to the City Council. On April 4, the Council will decide what renovations should be enacted.

Sandra White, the chair of the commission, voted in favor of the plan because improving the small park, which is only about two-thirds of an acre in size, could help renovate the city's downtown, including making it more pedestrian-friendly.

The plan would incorporate changes such as adding a “destination feature” like a canopy walk or treehouse, enhancing the park's existing tree canopy, installing public art or string lights in the trees, renovating the garden (including putting in an irrigation system), and improving infrastructure so that more events could be held at the park. Improvements would also be designed to make it easier for both farmers and their customers to get to the farmers' market held at the park, by improving water and sewer facilities and adding ramps for ease of access.

Plans also suggest better lighting, including color-changing LEDs that can be programmed, and reworking entries and edges to create a more comfortable environment. Overhead canopies would also be replaced to give protection from the weather.
