Western Marine Electronics (Wesmar), a Woodinville company, was recently sold by its founder and president to Roger Fellows, a local businessman.
Fellows said he has no plans to relocate Wesmar or any of its employees. The company will continue to occupy and operate at its current site.
Wesmar designs and builds equipment for use in the marine industry, and is found in vessels of all kinds, all over the world. Its products include roll fin stabilizers, bow thrusters, sonar, and stern thrusters, and are used by commercial fisheries, as well as military forces, sport boats, and private yachts, among others.
Fellows said he has spent the last year looking for a company to buy. He has a background in underwater products that are used by the oil and gas industry, and settled on Wesmar because it has a recognized brand name, has been in business for 52 years, and has potential for future growth.
Blakey founded Wesmar in 1965 with the idea of developing sonar specifically to help commercial fishermen find schools of fish. The company has remained stable through the storms that have beset the marine industry, and is the only company remaining in the United States that designs and builds sonar products for marine applications.
Changes like this are important to many people, so company officials might like to work with a newsletter printing company to devise a letter giving interested parties current information.
