Experts vote on equipment for playgrounds
When Woodinville officials wanted to know what sort of equipment the city should buy for the playgrounds at two of the city’s parks, Woodinville Heights Park and Wilmot Gateway Park, they decided to ask the experts: the kids who will be using it.
Officials on the Parks and Recreation Commission started with a list of 11 different designs for playground equipment, and narrowed that down to two choices. Then, they sent posters of the designs to students in the Hollywood Hills, Wellington, Woodin, and Woodmoor elementary schools, and asked them to vote on the proposed designs for Wilmot Gateway Park. Wellington Elementary students were asked to also vote on equipment for Woodinville Heights Park, which is the closest park to their school.
The equipment the students want to see in Wilmot Gateway Park includes a rock climbing structure, a whirligig, and a double-wide slide. Woodinville Heights Park will get benches and a new slide.
Woodinville’s assistant director of public works, Asha D’Souza, says the current playground equipment is either at the end of its life or nearing it, and must be replaced. The equipment will cost about $400,000, and should be in place at both parks by the middle of September this year.
Efforts like this can benefit if officials work with a newsletter printing company, to create a newsletter for city residents discussing current issues.
