The play tells the story of a girls’ indoor soccer team and the hardships they go through, touching on many hot-button social issues as well as timeless dramas of growing up.
The Wolves was the debut stage play of Sarah DeLappe and first premiered at the Lincoln Center Theater in New York in 2017. The Spokane production will be directed by Dawn Taylor-Reinhardt and stars young local actresses selected through an open audition, including Katelyn Rush, Meg Barlow-Jones, and Delany Kahler, with Ladonna Wojtowicz co-starring as the “Soccer Mom.” Promotional material focuses on the play’s major themes, as:
“[...]the team navigates big questions and wages tiny battles with all the vim and vigor of a pack of adolescent warriors. A portrait of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for nine American girls who just want to score some goals”
There will be 15 performances of The Wolves stretching across most of the month of March, including two matinee shows. Community theatrical productions like this often use methods like flyer printing and video clips on social media to help connect a local audience.
The Spokane Civic Theatre production of The Wolves will take place on select dates between March 7 and 30 at the Firth J Chew Studio Theatre.
