A long-running community storytelling event will be returning to Spokane this May, encouraging audiences to follow the time-tested advice of “Listen to Your Mother.”
The stage show is hosted by WholeBody Wellness Aesthetics and will invite local women to share their stories about motherhood, whether it be their experience having children or their relationship with their own mothers. Stories range from the comedic to the deeply personal, and sometimes both.
This will be the 14th annual edition of Listen to Your Mother in Spokane. The series of shows began in 2010 with an event organized by Ann Imig in Madison, Wisconsin, and rapidly spread to over 50 cities across North America, also spawning a book and extensive news coverage. Each event runs approximately 90 minutes and includes stories from a diverse group of local women.
Organizers feature 13 women from all walks of life each year, who have been auditioned through a competitive process. Speakers have assistance developing their storytelling schools through tools developed by Stavey Conner and Elise Raimi, with support from Spokane Arts. Public storytelling events like this use methods from poster printing to podcasts to help attract an appreciative audience.
The 2026 Spokane staging of Listen to Your Mother will take place at the Bing Crosby Theater on the evening of Sunday, May 10, coinciding with Mother’s Day.
