The Spokane Chinese Association will be hosting a special event this February, ringing in the Lunar New Year with a showcase of Chinese culture.
The Lunar New Year is celebrated throughout parts of Asia that use lunisolar Calendars, with this year’s celebration ushering in the Year of the Snake. The day will kick off with a cultural fair showcasing Chinese art Forms such as calligraphy and painting, as well as samplers of Chinese cuisine and displays representing various facets of culture. There will also be a lunar new year-themed photo booth and a chance to interact with local organizations. Cultural groups at fairs like this often use business card printing and promotional items to help connect with the community.
Later in the afternoon there will be an on-stage performance featuring a variety of traditional Chinese art forms, including folk dancing, vocal and instrumental music, tai chi, and the famed dragon dance. Renowned pianist Archie Chen will be among the musical performers. There will also be acts showcasing other cultural traditions from throughout East Asia. Ticket buyers will be entered into a draw for a $1000 grand prize. The Lunar New Years celebration has become an annual tradition for the Spokane Chinese Association.
The 2025 Lunar New Year celebration in Spokane will take place on the afternoon of February 8 at The Fox.
