The game will be part of the West Coast Conference’s regular season schedule, as the Spokane-based Gonzaga Bulldogs work towards another postseason tournament bid. Proceeds from tickets and fundraising events during the game will go towards the Community Cancer Fund, which provides support for cancer screening, prevention, treatment and research in the Inland Northwest area. The charity’s initiatives include the CCF Camp Endowment Fund, offering summer camp to children affected by cancer, and the Kootenai Health lodging facility for patient support.
The charity game has become an annual Gonzaga tradition, with a different WCC opponent each year. Last year’s event saw the Bulldogs triumph 86-60 over Pepperdine in front of a sellout crowd. Charitable sports events like this often use methods like flyer printing and social media to help draw the connections between the game and teamwork needed to achieve charitable goals. A press release from the 2024 edition emphasized this connection:
“Both teams and their fans showcased unwavering support for the cause, reflecting the potency of sports as a catalyst for philanthropic endeavors.”
The 2025 Community Cancer Fund Classic will take place at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena on the evening of Thursday, January 2.
