The intrepid bathers who were part of a special Seattle event that had to be put on hiatus will be hitting the water once more, as it will soon be making its return.
The Seattle Polar Bear Plunge will be kicking off 2023, and all ages are welcome. It is scheduled for Matthew's Beach, and is being co-sponsored by the Meadowbrook Community Center Advisory Council and Seattle Parks and Recreation.
The registration kiosk for the plunge will open two hours ahead of the swim, and each bather who manages to get at least neck deep in the icy water will receive a Badge of Courage that boasts a unique graphic design. Whether they choose to do a few laps or run out screaming as soon as their toe hits the water, everyone will be treated to warming refreshments, and food will be on offer for purchase.
To help make the activity a real community builder, it will feature a vendor area with several small, locally based businesses. A photo booth will be set up as well, and music will help to keep the excitement levels high. Costumes are encouraged.
Seattle will be celebrating the return of the Polar Bear Plunge on January 1. Anyone with health concerns is advised to speak with their doctor before they take the plunge.
