Bonsais can be grown indoors or out, and a Seattle session will teach the basics of caring for one grown inside.
A class that will be led by a bonsai growing expert will teach how to start and maintain a Ficus (fig) tree, and the goal is to train the plant to remain small in size while maintaining a desired shape. All skill levels and ages are welcome.
The session will open with a review of the history of this botanical art form, and everyone will learn which species tend to do well when grown indoors. This will be followed by a discussion of the basics of caring for one of these miniature trees, along with a tour of the venue’s own collection of tropical bonsai plants. Cory Sutton will be the facilitator, and a discount will be available to Pacific Bonsai Museum members.
Like many horticultural pastimes, going bonsais can be a relaxing and rewarding experience, and the plants have been known to live for decades. Basic growing guides that include space for making notes can be paired with promotional Pens to hand out to the attendees in a learning activity.
This introduction to the art and science of bonsais will begin at 12:00 pm on Saturday, July 19. It will run until 3:00 pm. The registration fee for members is $140, while the general public will be asked to pay $150.
