Seattle will host the Summer at SAM Festival next month. The park-wide event has partnered with the Nepantla Cultural Arts Gallery to bring the community together for a day of art, movement, games, and music performances.
Guests can start the morning with a yoga class in the sun, then participate in making art. Carlos Martinez will teach collage making, Rolando Avila will provide drawing tips, and Raquel Garcia will be instruct on how to make nichos.
Festivalgoers can also spend part of the day browsing the art market. Local artists and other vendors will participate in the pop-up market in the park, selling handmade arts and crafts. Sometimes, vendors at similar events use printing services for Business Cards and other items shoppers may want to take home.
The Jo Cosme Installation is expected to be popular. Cosme uses her lived experience, immersive installations, and photography to examine displacement, colonialism, and the way the tourist image of Puerto Rico contrasts with the reality of the communities in the country.
Several local food trucks will be on site. Visitors can grab a quick bite from El Pachi or Mi Patria. Additionally, Shooby Doo Catering will provide snacks and beverages in the PACCAR Pavilion. Guests can also play minigolf and see performances at the amphitheater.
The Summer at SAM Festival will be on Sunday, August 2 from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm. Taking place at Olympic Sculpture Park, it is a free, family-friendly event.
