Plant lovers know that creating a beautiful and productive indoor or outdoor garden is often a labor of love, and an upcoming Seattle activity may help to take some of the financial bite but of the hobby.
Home horticulturalists who attend the “Plant Propagation for Beginners” workshop will learn a variety of thrifty ways to multiply their personal collection, and they can then share or even sell their extras to help fund the purchase of new plants. The techniques taught can be used by almost anyone, and the function is scheduled to take place outdoors.
The learners in the session will learn a variety of propagation methods such as taking stem and root cuttings, revitalizing “tired” perennials by division, using layering techniques and also seed starting. Tips will be shared for germinating seeds that may need special treatment such as scarification or a cold treatment, and there is enough space in the class to accommodate 15 attendees.
Home horticulture is becoming an increasingly popular pastime. Simple growing guides, tip sheets, plant tags, and other items for a workshop will be available at area printing services companies.
This introduction to the art and science of plant propagation will kick off at 2:00 pm on October 1. Rainier Beach Urban Farm and Wetlands, which can be found at 5513 S Cloverdale Street in Seattle, is the location.
