Seattle landscapers offered continuing education opportunity

Tree pruning is a task that can be performed for a variety of reasons, and a Seattle class will explore the science behind the practice.

The Tree Pruning I workshop, which is part of the larger Master Pruner Series, will introduce those who work in the landscaping industry to the art and science of pruning cultivated trees. The facilitator will be Bess Bromstien, and professional credits may be available.

Registrants for the online class, which is being offered by the UW Botanic Gardens, will explore the science of pruning and how it can both encourage plant growth and control the overall shape of a tree. The group will learn how and where to make their cuts depending on factors such as bud location and the desired growth habit. The activity has a run time of two hours, and a discussion of which tools to use and how to care for them will be included.

The learning opportunity is on offer thanks to support from PlantAmnesty. Learning proper horticultural techniques can help a landscaper to provide their customers with top quality services. Educational materials and certificates of completion can be prepared for an activity like this by a local printing services company.

This first instalment in the online Master Pruner series will be held on Thursday, February 2. It will start at 9:30 am.
