Seattle discovers joys of growing food at home

Seattle residents who would like to learn how to grow their own food, and learn the benefits of doing so, are welcome to register for an online learning opportunity in January.

Washington State University has prepared a workshop series that will explore how to grow food at home, and this installment will be focused on growing members of the onion and beet plant families. The fee to register is $5, and the workshop is two hours long.

The session will supply an introduction to growing on members of the Allium family such as garlic, onions, and scallions. Beets are in the Amaranthaceae family, and are grown for their edible roots and leaves. Growing spinach and other greens such as chard will be included as well. Their care and culture will be discussed, as will the control of insects, diseases, and pests

People may be surprised to learn how much they can grow even if they only have a small space. Classes that teach them how to do so may be popular among these groups, and a poster printing company can offer a variety of ways to market these activities.

This introduction to edible urban horticulture is scheduled to be on offer on Wednesday, January 12th. Taking place using the Zoom platform, the session will begin at 7:00 pm.
