Summer is the time for music festivals, and the Tri-Cities campus of Washington State University, located in Richland, near Kennewick, is getting into the game.
The University will hold the first annual Jazz & Wine Festival in a week’s time. A performance from Wes Mackey, a blues and jazz musician, will be the headlining act of the festival. Mackey will also give a lecture and supervise a clinic at the school earlier in the day.
The evening's concert will take place outside, on the Columbia Center Rotary Stage, which is between the buildings on campus and the Columbia River. The festival is just one way that the campus is trying to increase its profile and become known as a cultural center for the community at large. It also hosted the Mid-Columbia Literary Festival in April and held an "Evening with the Arts" in September. The festival's planning committee could use postcard printing to let students and residents of the Tri-Cities know about the upcoming concert.
The concert will start at 7:00 pm on June 19, and the clinic and lecture will take place between 1:00 pm and 2:30 pm, in the auditorium of the East Building. Tickets for the festival are between $10, for general admission, to $75 for Chancellor's Crimson Premier tickets. There are only 20 Premier tickets available. Along with special seating, the Premier tickets come with backstage access, a free glass of wine, a parking pass, and the opportunity to meet Wes Mackey.
