Kennewick welcomes new hospital with ribbon cutting

Although its official opening date is still a month away, the mayor of Kennewick and members of the public health community welcomed the arrival of the Trios Southridge Hospital on May 30.

Dozens attended the ribbon cutting ceremony, including state governor Jay Inslee and Kennewick mayor Steve Young. Commenting on the importance of the soon-to-open hospital, the governor noted that the new facility will give the area

"…an opportunity to renew the commitment to healthcare excellence, enhance services and expand reach into new areas."

Trios Southridge opened in 1952 as the Kennewick General Hospital. The old hospital space will be converted into a pediatrics facility and women's center, complete with a birthing center.

The new hospital had an open house the day after the ceremony, which gave the public a glimpse into the new space. People won't be able to see the new facility again until it opens on July 15.

The town could use flyer printing to spread the word of the soon-to-open hospital. The governor praised the timing of the new facility, as healthcare reform has increased the number of people with insurance coverage.

Once open, the hospital will have 74 private rooms for patients, as well as 27 rooms in the emergency and urgent care section. It will also have six operating rooms, a restaurant, and a chapel.
