Earlier this month, John Lunceford, a bus driver with the Kennewick School District, picked up a student who was crying because his hands and ears were so cold. The child did not have a hat or gloves and both of his hands and ears were bright red.
To help soothe the child and warm him up, Lunceford gave him this gloves and reassured the student that it would be OK.
After dropping the kids off at school and returning his bus, Lunceford headed to a nearby dollar store. There, he picked up 10 new hats and 10 new pairs of gloves in either pink or black.
Lunceford returned to the school and found the cold student in the library. He handed the student a new pair of gloves and a new hat. After giving out the first set of gloves and hat, Lunceford let other students on his route know that he would help them out if they needed a hat or gloves. According to a Facebook post on the school district's page, one girl jumped at the chance.
Schools can use banner printing to recognize the efforts of people such as Lunceford, who go above and beyond the call of duty to help those around them.
Lunceford has driven buses for the school district for several years. He is a veteran with the US army and a grandfather as well.
