Leftover candy from Halloween could soon be making its way to the armed forces.
The days after Halloween tend to be a sugar-filled rush, with many children getting more candy on their trick or treating rounds than parents would like for them to eat in a year.
Programs such as the American Vets Association and Operation Cash for Candy have plans that seek to solve from of the extra candy problem. Starting the first week in November, the programs will be collecting candy at various locations in Kennewick and the Tri-City area. Donated candy, snacks, and necessities such as batteries and toiletries will be given to US troops.
Drop-off locations include the Richland Public Library, which is collecting candy for the American Vets Association. Operation Cash for Candy is running at a number of healthcare providers, such as the Center for Dental Health in Richland, Oasis Physical Therapy in Richland, Kennewick and Pasco, and Columbia Basin Oral Surgeons in Kennewick. The organizers of the candy donation program can use Flyers to spread the word.
As part of Operation Cash for Candy, children are given $1 for every pound of candy they turn in. They also have the option of donating the $1 back to the organization, to cover the cost of shipping the candy. Children who donate are also entered into a drawing for Toys R Us gift cards and prizes.
Most of the locations will be accepting donations until November 7. Dates and times for drop-off vary by location.Get a Free Quote for Flyers
