Kennewick residents and business work together to help those in need.

For the second year in a row, more than 40 public service agencies, social service organizations and local businesses will work together to help Kennewick and Tri-Cities residents in need.

This Saturday, August 13, the second annual Convoy of Hope event will be held at Kennewick's Columbia Park. During the event, organizations and businesses will provide a variety of services and products to people who need them. Anyone is welcome to attend, as the Convoy of Hope is open to everyone. No identification or paperwork is needed to participate in the day's events.

Organizers of the event expect more than 7,000 people to show up throughout the day. They can take advantage of free shoes, groceries, haircuts, and family portraits, as well as get information about job assistance and health services. To get the word out about similar events, designed to be open to all, organizers can use local printing companies to produce Posters and Postcards that help spread the word.

Around 6,500 people received help in some form or another during the previous year's Convoy of Hope. Organizers served 8,000 meals, gave out 35,000lb of groceries, and handed out 2,500 Backpacks. It is anticipated that $1m worth of items and services will be given away this year.

Along with helping locals, the Convoy of Hope will offer a variety of kid-friendly activities, including a bounce house. Free shuttle transportation will be available from several area transit centers.
