Richland, one of the Tri-cities, was recently ranked the 127th best city for teachers across the US, by GoodCall.com. The city came in fourth, out of 22 cities, in Washington state.
The rankings are based on the average salary teachers earn and the cost of living in a city. A portion of each city's score was also influenced by the number of teaching jobs available. How the median salary earned by teachers compared to the median income of other careers in the area also influenced a city's score.
Other scoring categories included the number of college and high school graduates, overall unemployment, crime rates and amenities in the areas.
Cities that ranked high on the list can use their position to attract new teachers or to retain teachers. The cities can use Mailing services to share their ranking with residents and employees.
The list from GoodCall included 689 cities. The other two tri-cities didn't fare as well as Richland. Kennewick came in at position 589 and Pasco was ranked 619th.
The median income in Richland in $58,000, which is nearly 150 percent higher than the median income for the rest of the Tri-City area, $39,100.
The area that was ranked number one by GoodCall was Bentonville, Arkansas. The cost of living there is 10 percent lower than the national average. Teachers in Bentonville typically earn salaries that are 68 percent higher than the median income.
