Kennewick has a new Man and a Woman of the year. The pair received the honors at the end of last month.
The 2017 Woman of the Year is Joyce Kerr, who first moved to the area in 1949, with her husband, a doctor. The couple moved to Kennewick because the area was in need of a medical professional. Kerr, 90, was nominated by Nancy, her daughter-in-law, who herself won the award in 1993.
Kerr has spent her life in service to others. She served as a guardian of children in state custody, helped with emergency preparations during the Cold War, and provided aid to refugees during the Vietnam War. More recently, she has been entertaining residents at assisted living facilities with her ventriloquism talents.
Dave Retter earned the title of Man of the Year. He is the owner and founder or Retter & Company Sotheby's International Realty. His company has made a number of contributions to the area over the years.
Both the Man and the Woman of the Year awards have been in existence for more than 60 years. The Woman of the Year award was first given out in 1948 and is presented by the Soroptimist International club. The Man of the Year award was first given in 1956, and the Men of the Year club presents it. They are just that sort of awards that often entail Stationery printing as part of the awards ceremony.
