Next month, about a 100 high school students from Pasco High School, in the tri-city area near Kennewick, will get what many people only dream of - a chance to see the hit musical Broadway musical ‘Hamilton’.
The students have tickets to the touring performance of the show in Seattle. These come from the Hamilton Education Program, which was created by partnership formed between the NYC Department of Education, the Rockefeller Foundation, the Gilder Lehrman Institute, and the creators of the musical. The program launched in 2015.
Although tickets from the education program are much less expensive than those sold through the box office, they are paid for through hard work. To qualify for the program, students need to study the time period around the Revolutionary War and Alexander Hamilton. They also have to create a song, dance, or theatrical scene, based on what they learned.
Educational programs that hope to get more students into the theater and that hope to inspire students through performance can use flyer printing to spread the word.
The students will see the show on March 8. Along with the performance, they will be able to participate in a Q&A session with the cast. To help deliver the fruits of their labor to a wider audience, some will get to perform their songs onstage before the show.
