Special recycling programs to come to Renton

Renton held its first of three special recycling events this month, with dates for the other two confirmed.

On May 15, a collection of metal and Styrofoam took place. Locals were able to recycle scrap metal and large appliances such as auto parts, bicycles, water heaters, and lawn mowers, as well as any Styrofoam or other plastic times with a EPS or #6 symbol on them.

The second one will enable residents to recycle tires, cardboard, mattresses, and box springs. A third one, taking place in the fall, will allow people to responsibly dispose of Styrofoam and documents for shredding.

All the planned recycling events run from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. on Saturday May 15. The second one will be held on Saturday, June 6 and the third one on Saturday September 18. All events will take place at held at the Renton Technical College North Parking Lot. Poster printing is often used to promote such events, as well as flyer printing to raise awareness of them door to door.

Renton will also be participating in the state’s PaintCare program, which enables residents to recycle oil-based and latex paints, varnishes, and stains at no charge. All drop-off sites will take five gallons per person per visit. Spray paint will not be accepted, and nor will unlabeled, leaking or empty containers.
