Special certificate awarded to Renton councilperson

Kim-Khánh Văn, a member of the Renton City Council, has been awarded a Certificate of Municipal Leadership (CML) from the Association of Washington Cities (AWC).

Announcements of such accomplishments are often made known throughout a city with poster printing.

The Certificate of Municipal Leadership program of the AWC recognizes officials from cities and towns for accomplishing training in five major areas that includes public sector resource management; diversity, equity, and inclusion; effective local leadership; roles, responsibilities, and legal requirements; and community planning and development.

CEO of the AWC, Deanna Dawson, said that it is a complex job to be a leader of a city in Washington state. Dawson added that the CML program provides the knowledge elected officials need to work within the law, secure and manage funds, plan for the future, build more equitable communities, and foster strong relationships.

Councilmember Văn said she completed over 30 hours of training in order to receive this certificate. She thanked the city for their confidence and trust in her to serve the community. She said that it has always been a priority of hers to learn as much as she could so that she can advocate for, and better serve, the citizens of Renton.

Armondo Pavone, Mayor of Renton, congratulated Councilmember Văn on her achievement. He added that she is focused and dedicated to the residents of the city.
