Rentons clothing styles on view at the history museum

Currently on exhibit at the Renton History Museum is Sparkle, a new display highlighting the fashion history of Renton.

Such special exhibits are often promoted throughout a community using poster printing.

Curator of Collections and Artifacts at the Museum, Sarah Samson, said the exhibit looks at the various ways in which residents of Renton have worn clothing throughout the years, and the reasons why people decorate their clothing. Featured are the flapper dresses of the 1920s in juxtaposition to the more sedate fashions of wartime, demonstrating the messages that people were trying to project and the background of those who wore such clothing. The exhibit comes from the museum’s textile collection.

The Renton History Museum is in an historic Art Deco firehouse in historic downtown Renton in a neighborhood of local restaurants and shops, close to Liberty Park and the library. The Museum offers publications, events, and program that share the past, present, and stories of Renton and exhibits which change on a regular basis. Parking is free and there is no admission fee on the first Wednesday and third Saturday of every month. The Museum is a joint initiative between the Renton Historical Society and the city of Renton.

The Sparkle exhibit is opened through Saturday, April 4. The Museum is opened from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, on Tuesday through Saturday.
