Renton to reallocate funds for human services

The Renton City Council has approved the reallocation of $1.5 million from the funding provided by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) to go towards the Department of Equity, Housing and Human Services (EHHS).

The mayor, Armondo Pavone, said that these funds will be distributed immediately and will go towards those agencies in the city serving those who urgently needs such funds, smaller agencies that support minority populations, and additional staff support, among others. More details about such funding and its uses are often made known in a city with flyer printing.

Highlights of the distribution of funds includes just over $192,000 for the expansion of human services agencies; $60,000 to provide services for the homeless in the city; and $52,000 for smaller agencies that serve the residents of the city and are not funded by human services.

In addition, the upcoming Human Needs Assessment plan, which covers the entire city, will receive money from a reserve fund to further its implementation. The last assessment for this plan was made in 2014. Preeti Shridhar, administrator for EHHS, said that the city has undergone many important changes since then such that the priorities of the department need a new focus. Shridhar added that the city is accepting new proposals to help identify the critical needs in the city. To support the implementation of the Human Services Plan, $775,000 will be allocated from the funding.
