Renton to host competition for small businesses

The competitive pitch competition for both existing and future small businesses in the area will be returning this year in Renton.

The Main Street Pitch Competition program is made possible by the Renton Downtown Partnership, which is composed of the Renton Civic Theatre, the Renton Public Library, the city of Renton, and Startup 425. There will be resources and opportunities provided by the competition through development workshops, which will be offered free of charge to individuals and small businesses.

The workshops will cover such topics as writing a business plan, small business finances, and marketing. All the workshops will take place at the Renton Library on Mill Avenue South starting at the end of March and lasting until the beginning of May. Local Print shops are often called upon to create Brochures and other printed materials with takeaways from such workshops that can be used for the development of these pitches.

There are three categories in which businesses can sign up—startup idea, early, and established. Each category is determined by how long an applicant has been in business. There will be cash prizes awarded in each category, and there will also be a people’s choice winner.

Applications to participate in the competition must be submitted by Tuesday, March 19. There will be a Pitch Practice on Tuesday, May 21 with the Pitch Finale at the Renton Civic Center on Tuesday, June 11, beginning at 6:00pm.
