Renton to hold competition for business owners

The Renton Downtown Partnership – in collaboration with the Renton Chamber of Commerce, the Port of Seattle, OneEastSide, and the city – will be holding an Entrepreneur Workshop and Pitch Competition this month.

This competition will provide a chance for existing entrepreneurs and business owners to share their ideas. There will be three categories, with winners in each receiving $5,000. The first three finalists who lease a downtown storefront by October 15 will receive an incentive bonus of $5,000.

The categories will include start-up businesses that currently just have ideas, early businesses with gross sales of less than $75,000 last year or that have been in operation for under two years, and established businesses boasting gross sales of more than $75,000 last year or that have been in operation for more than two years.

There will be five in-person Tuesday evening workshops covering such topics as choosing a structure for one's business, business insurance, government regulations, preparing a business plan, marketing, branding, finance and accounting, and preparing a pitch. Such workshops can also help businesses with branding and Logo Design.

The workshops will be on February 21, March 7, March 21, April 4, and April 11 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the downtown Renton Library. The live pitch event will be at the Renton Civis Theatre on Tuesday, April 18 beginning at 6:00 pm.
